In 1973 Goos Vedder from Holland came to Chester to pastor a local church. His teaching led many into the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The associated freedom of worship and teaching attracted a large congregation and, under the pastorship of Goos, this became "The Church of the Way."The new church first began meeting at the Art Centre (now the Public Library) and then met at the YMCA. Eventually the growth of numbers made necessary the purchase of the present building.
