The firm's roots in the Manchester area go back to the early 1800s. Until the late 1970s it was a typical family run firm concentrating mainly on domestic conveyancing, trust and probate work. Although domestic matters have continued to be an important part of the work carried out by the firm, from 1980 the focus of the partners shifted strongly to commercial work. It is commercial and corporate work which is the strength of the firm today.
